Dr Ann Maseti is a Chemical Pathology Registrar at the National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS), Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, and the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. She holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from the University of the Witwatersrand and a Postgraduate Diploma in HIV Management (Dip HIV Man, SA), which she completed following her experience as a medical officer in rural Eastern Cape.
Her clinical and academic interests focus on clinical chemistry, diagnostic laboratory medicine, point-of-care testing (POCT), cardiac biomarkers, and laboratory quality management. She is particularly interested in strengthening diagnostic pathways and improving access to reliable laboratory services, especially in resource-limited and underserved settings. Dr Maseti is pursuing a Master of Medicine (MMed) in Chemical Pathology, with research investigating the analytical performance and clinical applicability of the Siemens Atellica VTLi high-sensitivity cardiac troponin I point-of-care assay using capillary fingerstick samples in an African population which was published in Clinica Chimica Acta. She has published a case report in Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (CCLM), highlighting the diagnostic challenges and clinical significance of this uncommon condition.
Her academic work reflects a commitment to evidence-based laboratory medicine. She has presented her research at professional scientific meetings, including the Wits Physicians Update workshop and the Point-of-Care Testing Conference in Cape Town in 2026. Through her clinical training, research, and academic engagement, Dr Maseti aims to contribute to advancing laboratory medicine and improving equitable access to timely, accurate, and clinically meaningful diagnostic testing.
