Zhangfei Shen joined the School of Basic Medical Sciences, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine in 2026 as a Principal Investigator. Dr. Shen received his B.S. from the College of Veterinary Medicine, Nanjing Agricultural University and his Ph.D. from the College of Animal Sciences, Zhejiang University. During his doctoral training, he undertook joint PhD training program at Harvard Medical School for one year and the Paul Scherrer Institute in Switzerland for six months. Before returning to China, he completed postdoctoral training at the College of Medicine, The Ohio State University. His research integrates structural biology, biochemistry and biophysics to decipher host–pathogen interactions, especially how the host mounts immune defense against foreign nucleic acids. Over the past five years, he has published papers as (co-)first author in journals including Nature, Cell, Molecular Cell, Nature Structural & Molecular Biology, Nature Communications, PNAS and Cell Reports. He has published over 30 papers in total, including 15 (co-)first-author papers.
